A picture taken on July 9, 2008 shows the Tricastin Nuclear Power Centre in Bollene, southern France. An accidental spillage of waste containing uranium occured on July 8, 2008 at one of France’s top nuclear plants. Some 30 cubic metres (over 1,000 cubic feet) of effluents containing 12 grammes (easily less than half an ounce) of uranium per litre spilled out at the Tricastin Nuclear Power Centre. Residents in southern France were told not to drink water or eat fish from rivers despite tests showing an uranium leak at a nuclear plant was not as serious as previously thought.
